Did you know that there is a surprisingly large amount of wisdom that can be picked from children’s literature, television shows, and films? Well, sometimes as adults we need to revisit or try out such stuff not only for leisure but to perhaps pick some life lessons.

Novels such as Winnie The Pooh, written by A.A.Milne, gave interesting characters and quotes that we can all learn from.

Here, we pick some of the most fascinating and profound Winnie the Pooh quotes and tell you what you can learn from them.

Winnie the Pooh Quotes about Love

Piglet asks Pooh how he spells the word love and Pooh tells him: “You don’t spell it… you feel it.”

Your Ability to Deal with Almost Anything

“You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.” This quote is meant to help you believe in yourself even during the most trying times in your life.

For the Little Things

Sometimes the smallest things happen in our lives and we do not speak up about them. Keeping them in our hearts fills up the space that would have been filled with love. Just as Pooh said, “the smallest things take up the most of your heart.”

Winnie the Pooh Quotes about the Futility of Worry

Have you ever been in a situation where you sat down and thought to yourself about the worst thing that would happen where you are? Pooh teaches us that positive thinking is the best way to avoid overthinking and worrying. In the part of the story where Pooh and Piglet are sitting under a tree and Piglet asks Pooh what would happen if the tree fell with them under it. Pooh is not stressed at all and asks him what would happen if it didn’t.

“Supposing a tree fell down, Pooh, when we were underneath it?”

“Supposing it didn’t,” said Pooh after careful thought.

Knowing Everything by Virtue of Just Being

“You will know everything there is to know just by standing on the bottom rail of a bridge and watching the river slipping away slowly beneath you.”

Individuality

We like to compare ourselves with our friends – those that we interact with so much that we want to be like them. Now, this is the quote might change your thinking: “You cannot change who you are and you need to know that the things that make you different are the things that make you who you are.”

Needing Yourself

You might feel like there’s a part of you that’s missing or has been taken away. You end up trying to find yourself in someone else, consequently losing yourself along the way. This quote that says “I was walking along looking for somebody and then suddenly I wasn’t anymore means just that” pretty much sums it up.

Being Present

We sometimes find ourselves worrying about tomorrow and what it will bring. Pooh shows us on the importance of worrying about today when he is asked by Piglet what day it is and he says it is his favorite day!

“What day is it?”

“It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.

“My favorite day,” said Pooh.

Self-Sacrifice

Love can be described as many things but in the sense of self-sacrifice, it is when you give way to the happiness for someone you love.

Gratitude

We are all created differently and most of the time we are judged by our appearance. In fact, what’s in your heart is what should matter the most. Do you remember that Piglet noticed he had a small heart which could hold a lot of gratitude?

Comfort Zones

Even in our comfort zones, it is always okay to ask for help and go out in a bid to know what others are doing. In the novel, the writer captures this when he says that “you can’t stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you when you can also go to them.”

Overthinking

Pooh says that he sometimes sits and thinks and sometimes he just sits. Doesn’t this happen to you too? Let’s avoid thinking too much and enjoy that which is around us.

Unselfishness

Sometimes we care about ourselves too much and forget those around us. A little consideration and thought for others can make a difference since you get to know them and what they feel.

The Difference Between Knowledge and Understanding

Finally, the following Winnie the Pooh quotes say that not every knowledgeable person has the gift of understanding. Pooh thinks of the rabbit as clever and despite this, he also thinks that rabbit does not understand anything.

“Rabbit’s clever,” said Pooh thoughtfully.

“Yes,” said Piglet, “Rabbit’s clever.”

“And he has Brain.”

“Yes,” said Piglet, “Rabbit has Brain.”

There was a long silence.

“I suppose,” said Pooh, “that that’s why he never understands anything.”
